  1. hopefully Canada qualifies for the Olympics and the World Cup but their biggest chances in qualifying for a World Cup is the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

  2. Truth: Olympic soccer does not matter much in the world. Why? Because at this stage, most players are already playing (or should already be) professionals or on their national team roster. They should be making names for themselves in their clubs. With the Euros this summer, most European teams won’t be giving up their u23 players
Thats not saying this tournament is useless. It’s an experience for some especially after missing the U20 WC. And the US squad is good enough to go far in such tourny.

  3. But this isn’t the senior team, it’s the OLYMPIC team! The ones that represent this country in the most embarrassing way if they luck out by beating El Salvador only to be humiliated by European players that are much more disciplined.

  4. It’s too much to expect them to qualify for the WC from CONCACAF? I mean, it’s CONCACAF! Not UEFA or CONMEBOL.
OTOH, Mexico missed the last olympics because they got way too cocky with teams like Guatemala and paid for it.

  5. Like I told Greg Lalas on the MLS site, we expect too much from a squad that barely has any experience on serious competitions and took many friendlies too lightly. But then again, thinking about it now, you’d think that a team that is built out of players with youth and college academic background would dominate on the sport. They’re reaching senior age, they’re our future. Just imagine if they play like that in Brazil and Russia.

  6. Seems like a new trend in USSOCCER the teams are starting to get better individual talent, but the overall performance of the teams are getting worse

  7. Hmm. Maybe. Something needs to roll, but I’m not yet sure whose head.

  8. I really doubt that Mexico will finish anything but 1st in their group. And IF we beat El Salvador, that’s who we’re getting.

  9. And does anyone know if Mexico has secured 1st place in group B, even with a loss against Panama the next game? Only team that can tie Mexico’s 6 points is Honduras which has 3 points and with a win can make it 6. Would it then be head to head that decides group leader or would it go down to goal difference (which Mexico leads by +9 to Honduras -1)?
Just wanted to know if there was still any chance the two teams can avoid each other in the semis, other than Canada losing or tying.

  10. How do you measure the friendly win of US over Mexico? The US dominated that game. Of course Mexico was less prepared (I follow Chivas and know 4 of their players had arived a day and a half before). Mexico’s goal keeper is not among the best; he isn’t a starter in his club and isn’t close to Hamid’s level. Against Honduras, Mexico was lost the 1st 10 minutes and I see many things the US can exploit in their defense.
Also, Canada is lucky. El Salvador is better. How will the US do against them?

  11. If the U.S. team doesn’t qualified for the Olympics then heads needs to roll.
