The Australia Women Football team has been announced for the Olympics Games in Rio. 18 players have been chosen to represent Australia at the Women Football Tournament in Rio.
This will be the first time since the 2004 games in Greece that Australia will participate in the women football tournament, and they hope to have a great competition there.
The Australian team only managed to win their first knockout match at a World Cup in 2015 and since then have been enjoying a good run of form. Indeed they have gone through the qualifiers undefeated and managed to beat the best teams in Asia. This has given them the confidence that they can beat the best teams in the world, and they will want to compete against the best at the Olympics.
Australia’s vice-captain Lisa de Vanna said that they want to win at least a medal at the tournament. She is the only player that remains from the team of 2004 and believe that Australia can win something in Brazil. She believes that the team has progressed well and that they do not fear anyone on the world stage. She said that winning at least a medal at the Olympics tournament will be a great achievement for a relatively new team.
The Australia women football team has benefited from an improvement in the domestic league. This has allowed locally based players to get accustomed to high-level football. There are also some players that play in the best league in the world, and this has helped improve the team. Indeed these players bring not only skills on the pitch but also valuable experience.
De Vanna believes that the coaching staff has also been instrumental in the improvement of the team and that they have successfully built a team spirit.
