The finals of the 2016 CONCACAF Womens was played on February 21rst with United States locking horns with Canada and goals from Tobin Heath and Lindsey Horan was enough for the American team to claim a 2-0 triumph. This match was played at the BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston.
Lindsey Horan scored the opening goal of the match at the 53rd minute with a header and Tobin Heath secured the victory with the 2nd and last goal of the game.
Jill Ellis is the manager of the United States women’s squad and she guided the team to what was a very dominating campaign in the 2016 edition of the CONCACAF as they did not lose a single match starting from their group stages campaign which saw them being pitted in Group A along with Mexico, Costa Rica and Puerto Rico.
United States finished at the top of this group with 9 points as they went undefeated and in the semifinals they faced off with Trinidad and Tobago in a match where the American squad comfortably won with a final scoreboard of 5-0.
Canada had to play against Costa Rica in the semifinals and the Canadian team surpassed their opponents with a final scoreboard of 3-1.
These semifinal victories from Canada and United States were enough for them to secure their ticket into the upcoming Olympics which is going to take place in Rio de Janeero in Brazil. Continue reading →
